President's Message
The results are in. Rotarians voted 10-1 against the Phone Tracker project. The board has established a three member committee to recommend a new fund raiser assuming we are going to meet our commitment. More on this at a later date.
October is Vocational Service Month. Be proud of your profession. Share that pride. As Rotarians we are expected to share the expertise of our vocation in ways which benefit the community. One such way is to be open to explaining your work to those who are interested in pursuing a similar career. The job market is changing rapidly, and many young people are
seeking practical insight into possible careers, insight that can only be provided by those working day to day in that profession. You can meet that need. Some Rotarians already participate in career days and other speaking opportunities at schools. Whether one-on-one, or at such meetings, we are fulfilling part of our commitment as Rotarians and helping others to follow their dream.
The Entrepreneurship Program of our club is a great example of how we can assist young people in furthering their aspirations in a particular career. Such support benefits the young people who have access to years of experience and knowledge they would otherwise not be able to obtain. There is also a community benefit in providing some guidance to assist
others in achieving success. The Mentors gain from the experience of helping.
Everything we do that supports young people, helps them obtain skills that are of benefit in their lives and careers. Young people who participate in the Youth Exchange Program gain experience and skills that are valuable in any profession.
Rotarians who are successful private-sector business operators should be very proud of that fact. It is regrettable that some people have a negative view of business, yet your success is vital to the health of our community. In addition to the direct employment, the services provided, the needs met, the many contributions of the business community to our Rotary initiatives is a further example of the way in which others benefit. On behalf of the club and those who benefit from our actions we thank you for the support. Good business is good for the community, and Rotarians promote good business.

This Centre is also responsible for cardiac transplantation and pediatric cardiac surgery for all of Atlantic Canada. The Cardiac Division also has a Fellow training program. Dr. Hirsch explained that clinical results from his centre on a provincial basis were the best in Canada. The Division has embraced new technology that shows promise in combating cardiac disease. The division has also embraced coronary bypass grafting on the beating heart. The technique avoids the deleterious effects of systemic inflammation. Dr. Hirsch
provided details of most up-to-date modern technogies used at the Heart Centre. The main objective the his division is to provide the highest quality cardiac surgery care to its patients throughout Atlantic Canada.

Spoiling the meeting
From ROTI (Rotarians on the Internet)
I was attending a Rotary luncheon meeting Club in Alabama a few months ago, invited as the guest speaker. Seated at the head table with the President I saw the meeting was going well and the members were chatting at their tables amid the laugther and smiling faces. The president looked at me and said "Everyone really seems to be enjoing the meeting - should I let them have fun, or should I introduce you?"
